Hey y’all!

I’m Ashley, The Messy Hippie.

I write about the real, the raw and the messy y’all.

My struggles, my family, my past, my future.

I explore, process, unpack and re pack my unique and very personal lived experiences on planet earth as an 80’s baby, 90’s kid and 2000’s teen to now entering my prime era of my 40’s, in the mid 2020’s while discovering my own path, forging my own way, and re discovering the free, independent and creative parts of myself.

Grab a drink of your choice, a cozy blanket, sit back, have a few laughs and commiserate with me on all things;

Women, Co-Parenting, Marriage and Divorce.

Who I am

Person sitting in an armchair at a desk with dual monitors displaying a rainbow design, feet on the desk, cozy room setting with lamp, framed pictures, and personal items.

Who am I?
First and foremost I’m a human being on planet earth.
Everything is temporary.
Everything is relative.
Everything is perspective.
From then I’d describe who I am as:
A confident, proud, self aware, flawed woman.

I am a writer, a mother, a wife, a sister and a friend.

An Elder millennial with a Blue Whale size amount of trauma.
Trying to unpack it all one post at a time while also inspiring and uplifting my fellow human beings.

A person smiling while holding up an "I Voted Today" sticker, wearing a black shirt that references the 19th Amendment, sitting on a gray couch.

“Find a nice, good girl.

She’s not asking so many questions.

But I’m second guessing. If I’m being honest… It’s a little more complex.”

“Good girl, don’t you know that you could be perfect?

Just stick to the way you learned it.

They say ‘you will make a pretty bride. Meet a man and build a life.’

This world’s always had the same way of turning.

You don’t need to fix what’s been working…”

I am creative. I am weird. I am comedic relief.

I am anxiety. I am ADHD. I am a mental health survivor and advocate.

I am complex and dynamic. I am confusing. I am knowledgeable.

“I don’t love a body.

That’s just skin and bones, it’s not somebody.

I don’t look for reasons that they taught me.

Maybe we’re missing the point.

Girls who love girls and boys who love boys.

Truth is, it’s not black and white.

Call me what you like, I’m just a human.

I just love people.” -Morgan St. Jean

“Love doesn’t discriminate.”

Neither do I.

“I told myself I could be stronger and I can work harder and I can get over myself and value the visions and dreams that matter to me.

But I didn’t take care of mental and physical health.

I pretended I didn’t have any problems.”

“Turns out I’m just sick, I’m not crazy.”
